Wiki is now Read Only
Many users and Team members reported in the past that our Wiki was too difficult to use or contribute to it. Thus not many people contribute to it and it has become seriously out of date.
So, several months ago, we began investigating options to improve our Wiki. We have been working on it for months! Now, we have begun the test phase of the new Wiki by the Team and thus the current Wiki has been set to read only.
After getting input from our Team about the needs for our Wiki, we investigated several options and finally decided on MindTouch , an open source software for collaborative content management, including Wikis.
Based on MediaWiki, which powers Wikipedia and many other websites, MindTouch provides us with:
- a full WYSIWYG editor
- easy file and image attachment and update
- a Navigation Pane for easy browsing
- a backend for administration
- dekiscript features (the sky is the limit!)
- Joomla authentication using Forum usernames -no need for a separate Wiki account
- and much, much more
I will be providing more details in a Team Blog post later.
Currently we have completed the transfer of all relevant pages from our old MoinMoin Wiki. Many new pages have been added, expanded, and updated for MediaPortal 1.1.x.
Now we have entered a test phase by the Team, we cannot manage to maintain two Wikis. So we have made the current Wiki read only in order to concentrate on completing the development of the new Wiki.
The Test phase will last until the end of October, 2010, at which time we will allow users access to the new Wiki in a Beta Test mode.
This is all part of our goal to give MediaPortal a more polished presentation, and prepare for the release of MediaPortal 2.
Please be patient, we will try to get the new Wiki up and running as soon as possible.
