I did not put anyone on the couch last week as i.Loop posted a News article, but we are back at it this week!. So on the couch with us to today is Deda. He really does not like the feel of the vinyl couch against his skin, but I told him to wear clothes to the interview. It's his own fault! "Who is Deda?", some of you are asking, well I will let him fill you in on the details, but in a nutshell he is responible for tons of patches, and most recently a complete rework of MyVideos (the base video handler inside MP). He has ridden a bobsled down the entire length of Mt Everest, he has swam in the Sea of Tranquility.... he even built the Taj Mahal with his bare hands.... and today he is On the Couch....

 

How did you become interested in HTPCs?

One day I just saw that bookshelf where we kept our children’s cartoon DVDs become overloaded. So, how to keep cartoons, but get rid off all of those boxes? You know the answer


How did you first find MediaPortal?

You can blame Soundgraph VFD from my HTPC case. It was the only MediaCenter software which could properly handle it on that time (in that I don't count SG media software because it sucks big time). Yes, amazing thing, but I never had any problem with it as many MP users have


What is your favorite feature of MediaPortal?

Only one word: Customization. You can call it MediaPimp


What are some of your favorite plugins?

I’m not a fan of plugins but MP can’t live without them. Many of them are masterpieces but for me, anything outside of main program is potential problem which can mislead you to false conclusions when something doesn’t work.
In short: Fanart Handler, Generic Keyboard/Remote Input, Online Videos and InfoService (these one I really don’t need but it is fun to read on MP home page that Kim Kardashian divorced after 72 days


What are some of your favorite skins?

Black Glass Nova HD and recently I switched to MPs DeaultWide after Catavolt did new redesign because of new GUI settings (hugh, did I tell a secret for 1.3.0


How many hours a day do you use MediaPortal?

Hahaha, you should asked me How many hours you really use MediaPortal as a finished product


Have you tried other media center software, and how did it compare?

Sure I have when I was searching for my media holy grail. For a few days I had MS Media Center (simple to use but that’s all what is positive about it), than Soundgraph media .. hmm something


What MediaPortal projects are you currently active in?

To once and for all put a nail in MP in one of the most missing thing - Settings inside GUI (I can’t understand why it was not done before because I made it within 1 week with creating skin files for new screens and I’m really not code wiseguy and after Catavolt took over skin files design, it just sky rocketed). I transferred maybe 80% of settings into GUI (the rest are not needed or can’t be done on user friendly way as you can handle it in Windows with a mouse). Ofc, there is MyVideos which I reworked second time (unfortunately that will need to wait 1.3.0 release). Those are big ones, small ones are constant bug hunt whenever I found something odd in MP.
